Context

ApartmentList spun up a working group that led to an AI acquisition and I joined as its product designer. The goal was to explore the potential of AI to determine ROI.

Goals

The goal was to decrease the time it takes for property management company from someone passively interested in the apartment to lease by creating a chatbot and performance report for large enterprises and small businesses.

As senior product designer and user researcher, I oversaw the execution to create a 0-1 product.

We pursued multiple avenues of exploration, looking at areas where AI could have the biggest impact on the product. We also looked at areas where we could leverage AI to improve the product in a more subtle, discreet way.

Summarizing conversations, correspondence between a customer and a support person, was one of the areas we pursued based on the exploration and past customer feedback.

Get confident in AI

Chat/voice/emails/text format

We worked with an out-of-the-box solution from ZenDesk agents to gain confidence in this solution. With competitor research, it allowed me to observe best and worst practices firsthand.

This led to creating a robust AI solution for properties to utilize on their sites.

Managers utilize their own systems and need visibility into how AI is reducing the hours they work on people that's not interested in renting.

Working with the GTM team to get feedback from partners, the need to see performance was paramount.
